One thing I have been really proud about since school started is how I have kept up on homework. I realize it's only been 7 days, but still, you have to take your little victories where you can.
Last year, Princess was in Title 1 reading for part of the year. I had a hard time with this - I mean, I'm an English teacher and I have a daughter with a reading problem? She really benefitted from the program and is a pretty strong reader now.
When she can concentrate. :)
Last week, we began our reading with a Teacher From the Black Lagoon series. If you have never seen one of these books, they have great illustrations...unless you have ADD.
As we read, I literally had to redirect her on about every other word. I didn't want to give up the book (I am trying to teach her to finish what she starts), but damn. She would read a word or two, then ramble on and on and on about the pictures.
Another thing I noticed was that she had a tendency to start mumbling when she started to lost interest. Then, she would either only say 1/2 the word or would just guess the word without reading any of the letters.
Needless to say, as a teacher, this was more than a little frustrating.
Because of this, I have been pointing out every word to make sure she reads it correctly and stopping her as many times as it takes. I also try to give her time to look at and comment on the pictures (OK, after this sentence, you can tell me about that).
It's a loooooooong process, but it's what I have to do.
I'm wondering, what reading struggles have you faced? How are you combating them? Leave it in the comments! :)

I'm not familiar with the book, but assuming it is a reasonably short picture book, how about typing out each page individually, on off-white, blue or green paper, large font, lots of blank space. Have her read the typewritten page, then when she is done, show her the picture from the book.
This will also give you insight into how much she can read without contextual hints from the picture, and give you a springboard for discussion about how she imagines the pictures just from reading the text, what you learn from the picture that the text didn't tell you, etc.

I found over the years that many times I would call on a customer just to say hello and would ask if their is something I could help them with. There would always be something they were thinking of doing but just had not called me

Often, you'll feel the results in as little as a month.

I laughed with delight at the ad campaign when I spotted it yesterday. Not my style, but totally get what he was going for, and thought there were some interesting fashion ideas that I wouldn't expect from this line. The campaign (some images more than others) remind me of Kate Spade ad campaigns of past. Remember the one with the preppy NYC girl visited by her preppy family? This feels similar but a bit off. Though I did post the intro image with the jeep full of stuff on my wall. Thanks for sharing!

I think Cincinnati's sucess depends on the leadership of the QB. Cincinnati can have all the talent in the world, but if Carson can not get the guys to come together as a team as Chad would say "Kiss the baby". Look at the Colts. Payton is a leader. The Colts do not have the best individual players but it is the leadership of Payton that makes the team come together and win. It is up to the offense to stay on the field and score, giving our defense time to rest. I totally agree with what was said that the Bengals have to many mental errors. They need to work on the OL not jumping to soon. I saw that all year long last year.
